Christmas 2014 – Director’s Notes

DIRECTOR’S NOTES:

For many, the Christmas season doesn’t feel like it has started for them until they have heard a Christmas concert. If you’re one of those people, you’ve come to the right place. Our Christmas concert  is spiced with a bit of everything. The central portion of our presentation is an excerpt from J.S. Bach’s Magnificat. It is sprinkled with lively choruses, lyrical arias, a duet, and a trio and is preceded with two contrasting pieces: a fanfare style announcement of Christ’s birth and an ancient traditional tune rooted in Gregorian Chant. A more traditional second half features carols, spirituals, and two chances for you to join in the singing. And if you listen carefully, you will hear music which focuses on the “oneness” of Christ’s birth and how that can effect not only Simeon, but you. Enjoy!
