LOVE TO SING?
Interested singers are invited to audition for The Detroit Lutheran Singers! A special invitation is extended to recent graduates of university based choral groups. The Detroit Lutheran Singers strive to promote excellence in sacred choral music in the metropolitan Detroit area. To that end, Director Christopher L. Hall selects programs of sacred music ranging from the old masters to present-day composers. The group enjoys singing a variety of styles, including cantatas, spirituals and favorite anthems. Much of the choral repertoire is sung a capella.
HOW TO BECOME A SINGING MEMBER:
An audition is required to be considered for Detroit Lutheran Singers. Auditions are held at the start of each concert series. Interested singers must have previous choral singing experience. The audition consists of a brief interview with the Director as well as assessments in sight-reading, interval recognition, vocal range and quality.
WHAT’S THE COMMITMENT?
The Detroit Lutheran Singers present three “formal” concert series each year with additional performances as requested. Rehearsals are Monday evenings, 7:15 to 9:15 p.m., at Birmingham First United Methodist Church, centrally located at 1589 W. Maple Road in Birmingham, Michigan. The season lasts roughly from September through April with a large break in December/January. There are approximately 6 rehearsals prior to each concert series.
WHAT ELSE IS EXPECTED?
DLS members must purchase or provide concert dress for performances. Women’s dresses and “pearls” are purchased through DLS. Men wear tuxedos which may be purchased through DLS or another men’s clothier. Concert dress attire should be clean, well repaired and properly fitted.
The Detroit Lutheran Singers group depends on its members for ticket sales. Members are encouraged to sell tickets for concerts before each series to family, friends, their home church congregation and others who love sacred choral music.
